Kids are jumping, twirling and flipping for the Y!

The Y provides a safe environment and experienced instructors to help your child have fun, grow, learn new skills and take their fitness to the next level. They will learn to make healthy choices in an environment that teaches good sportsmanship, teamwork and the Y character values of honesty, respect, caring and responsibility. Students will develop basic fundamentals in gymnastics through use of a variety of apparatuses and movements. Our instructors will focus on your child's individual ability and encourage fun through games, instruction and social interaction. Our qualified coaches will help students improve their tumbling abilities by working on rolls, handstands, cartwheels and walkovers.  

How to Get Started – Free Assessment:

All students over the age of 5 years are assessed by one of our coaches prior to starting our program. Free assessments are held every week on a bookings only basis. At the assessment the student will undertake basic gymnastics skills and apparatus so as to ensure they are enrolled into the most suitable level for their ability.

Program Overview

Our gymnastics program provides opportunity for all participants to learn to be stronger in body (motor skills, strength and coordination), mind (creativity, cognitive development and problem solving) and spirit (social development and confidence).

Pre-School Program

GYM TOTS - (walking to 3.5 years) - 1 hour durationalt
Children attend with a parent or carer for a stimulating movement and play experience with opportunities to explore and develop their physical abilities. Activities include running, jumping, hopping, hanging, climbing, rolling, balancing and swinging in an increasingly challenging program. Our fun yet safe environment includes activities to stimulate fine motor skills and foot/hand/eye co-ordination. Children benefit by developing self confidence, body awareness and control while laying good foundations of balance, agility and general physical co-ordination. 
 
GYM KIDS - (3.5 – 5 years) - 1 hour duration
Similar to Gym Tots with added challenges and children attend with limited parent participation. Gym Kids is a fun program focusing on dominant movement patterns and basic motor skill learning.  Children will develop body awareness and self confidence, laying good foundations of balance, agility and general physical co-ordination relevant to all sports.alt

GYM TUMBLERS – 4+- 1 hour duration
A morning extension class for children who are independent of carer. Children are exposed to a variety of apparatus and techniques, whilst still within a relaxed environment.  Gym Tumblers is great way for children to learn controlled body movements and motor skills, as well as further developing their self-confidence and social skills.

School-Aged Program

GYM FUN (4 years +)- 1 hour duration alt
 A great beginning to Gymnastics as a sport for boys and girls. This class is best suited to school aged children who have never participated in gymnastics before. Children are introduced to basic gymnastic and movement skills as well as flexibility and strength.  Gym Fun classes are a recreational based program designed for both girls and boys aged 4 years and up. 

GYM CHALLENGE– (4 years +) - 1 hour duration
An extension of our Gym Fun program the Gym Challenge program focuses on dominant movement patterns which are the foundations for all sporting activities within a non-competitive environment with a focus on self-paced learning.

GYM SKILLS - Ability based – 1.5 hour duration
Gym Skills provides the introduction of more refined apparatus techniques within a positive learning environment. Gym Skills develops posture and confident body movement with a more dominant focus on apparatus.

GYM DEVELOPMENT - Ability based – 1.5 hour duration
An extension of our Gym Skills program – Gym Development enhances co-ordination and agility, for body awareness and balance continuing to refine the techniques required in gymnastics.  Skills are coached to build a strong base for more advanced gymnastics.

GYM BOYS - Ability based – 1.5 hour duration
Gym Boys is designed specifically to introduce the boy’s apparatus and techniques whilst the opportunity to experience the diverse benefits of gymnastics.  The classes are designed to develop strength, power and control.

GYM GIRLS - Ability based – 1.5 hour duration

Participants continue to work on more challenging skills and techniques. Students will increase their strength, flexibility, coordination development and balance.

Advanced Programs

Once students have achieved the above levels we offer our ability based senior levels of our gymnastics program. Students have the option of joining our Recreational GymFit program or our Competitive program.

GYM FIT A + B - BOYS AND GIRLS - Ability based – 2 hour duration
These classes focus on development of more advanced physical skills and movement patterns and combinations. Participants complete activities on all the gymnastics apparatus equipment and perform skills safely and successfully. Time is spent in each class on strength and flexibility improvement.

GYM COMP- Ability based – 1.5 hour duration twice per week

Participants train twice per week with focus on apparatus with the opportunity of participating in competitions.  Classes focus on performing combinations,  apparatus and enhancing strength and balance.  A great way to encourage children with competitive aspirations – without the pressure of having to compete. Competition is optional.

GYM CHEER
Gym Cheer will be our new Cheerleading theme gymnastics program. Classes will be age-based and dependant on demand. Classes will commence 2012.

ADULT GYMNASTICS

Adult Gymnastics will be offered once a week for adults wishing to brush up on their skills or learn something new in a safe and educational environment. Adult classes will be suitable for beginners. Classes will commence 2012
